Ordinance Increases Supreme Court Judge Strength to 38

President Droupadi Murmu promulgated an executive ordinance amending the Supreme Court Number of Judges Act, increasing the maximum judicial strength from thirty-three to thirty-seven, excluding the Chief Justice. The total sanctioned strength now officially stands at thirty-eight. This critical expansion aims to address the mounting judicial backlog, with over ninety-three thousand cases currently pending before the nation's highest constitutional court.
