Home Ministry Tightens FCRA Rules for NGOs

The Union Home Ministry has tightened the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) Rules, mandating non-governmental organisations to specify activities within five categories: social, economic, educational, cultural, or religious. NGOs must now disclose social media accounts, publications, and exact geographical operations. A minimum penalty of one lakh rupees applies to violations. Crucially, specific activities like proselytisation are explicitly excluded from receiving foreign funding under the religious and cultural categories.
